Judging Miss and Mr Brazil: It all starts TODAY!

TEARS OF JOY: One young woman's dream will come true, 41 others will be disappointed

It's a beautiful morning at the Hotel do Bosque in Angra dos Reis. The excitement (and tension) is palpable in the air this morning. 84 delegates (42 women and 42 men) will arrive today to compete for only two titles, Miss Brasil Mundo 2017 and Mister Brasil CNB 2017.

By yesterday evening, I could see the tension building up in Henrique Fontes, national director and owner of the competition. The smiles and jokes were replaced by a tense look on his face. He remained composed and in control throughout though I could sense the mounting anxiety and really wished there was something I could do to help him. (I noticed that he has a habit of making this little sound with lips and cheeks when he is thinking, which is something I do all the time too.)
LUCKY CHARM: A sign that all will go well

Putting on an event of this magnitude is incredibly taxing. On top of all the logistics that must be sorted out, it seems that it is also a bit of a battle to keep some of the state directors on their toes up until the last minutes. This industry is infamous for people who over-promise but under-deliver. Henrique would be the first to admit that he struggles with the business side of things as he is too nice, but he is learning every year. His passion and love for what he is doing shines through even at the toughest of times - what a true gentleman!

13:00 - 17:30: Candidates Arrive at the Hotel do Bosque
