Miss Puerto Rico, Valerie Hernandez, was the surprise winner of the 2014 Miss International title a short while ago in Tokyo, Japan. The 21 year old defeated 72 other beauties to become the 54th winner and Puerto Rico's second Miss International. Interesting enough, Hernandez was a last minute replacement for original delegate, Patricia Quinones.
The first runner-up was hot favorite Miss Colombia, Zuleika Suarez. Miss Colombia was also named the winner of Miss Friendship and Miss Best Dresser (Evening Gown award). In a surprising twist for this pageant which has regularly been blasted for overlooking darker skin beauties, it was the first time that two beauties with darker skin placed first and second. This will be seen as a major feat for this pageant.

The second runner-up was lovely Miss Thailand, Punika Kulsoontornrut, who was also a major favorite for the crown. Miss United Kingdom, Victoria Tooby, and Miss Finland, Milla Romppanen finished in fourth and fifth places respectively. They will stay in Japan with the top 3 for the next few days where they will represent the Miss International Organization.
The top 10 were completed by the delegates from Brazil, Mexico, Panama, Indonesia, and Argentina. Hot favorites from Netherlands, India, and Guyana missed the first cut. Miss India won Miss Internet Beauty as she got the most online votes. Miss France was named Miss Perfect Body and Miss Indonesia was chosen Miss National Costume.
