Miss World 2014 Review: New Zealand - Slovenia

The 64th Miss World will be crowned on December 14 in London, England. 121 beauties from all over the world are competing for the title. The winner will be crowned by outgoing Miss World, Megan Young from the Philippines. After keeping an eye on the pageant for the last 3 weeks, here are our thoughts:

****** : Miss World crown contender
***** : Possible top 5 finalist
****: Top 10 contender
***: Top 20 contender
**: Likely to miss the cut or an outside shot
*: Will probably miss the cut

NEW ZEALAND: ARIELLE GARCIANO **

I definitely believe Arielle was the best choice for her national title. She represented her country with pride and she’s a beautiful girl. Will it be enough to advance to the next level? I don’t think so. She’s middle of the pack as of now.

NICARAGUA: YAMURA LOPEZ *

It’s a shame that the coverage of this year’s pageant is so slow. Many girls have just kind of disappeared in the crowd. I fear that Yamura is one of them.

NIGERIA: IHEOMA NNADI *

I actually had to check if Miss Nigeria was still competing at Miss World. I didn’t really see any photos of her that I can remember. That’s not a good sign!

NORTHERN IRELAND: REBEKAH SHIRLEY **

If you look at how things have been going so far, it seems that England and Scotland are the favorites from the United Kingdom. That’s a real shame. I actually think beautywise that Rebekah is the strongest. She reminds me of Olivia Culpo.

NORWAY: MONICA OLIVIA PEDERSEN **

Monica is actually one of my biggest surprises of this year’s pageant. She is gorgeous! It doesn’t seem like she is one of the favorites to advance to the next round, but I do think that she’s doing her country proud. I hope Norway sends more girls of this caliber in the future.

PANAMA: NICOLE PINTO **

After some drama between the original winner and the Miss Panama Organization, the title holder was stripped of her crown and Nicole (who was the first runner-up of Miss Panama Universe) stepped in to represent her country at Miss World. She has not made much of an impact but she is a good-looking girl and I hope she enjoyed her time here.

PARAGUAY: MYRIAM AREVALOS **

Paraguay’s Myriam Arevalos did well by advancing to the top 29 of the Sports Challenge. Other than that, she’s not really made much of an impact. I am not feeling a top 20 placement for her.

PERU: SOFIA RIVERA **

I have seen a few photos of Miss Peru during the run-up to the final and I think she is reasonably attractive. I just don’t think she stands out enough to be noticed.

PHILIPPINES: VALERIE WEIGMANN ****

Representing the country of the reigning winner is always a huge challenge because the odds are stacked against you. Valerie is a worthy successor to Megan Young and competent representative of her country. I heard that she is super friendly and kind to her fellow contestants and I admire her for that. She also has a worthy project and amazing support from her countrymen. (I just wish their bashing of other girls and campaigns to dislike their videos and appeals for tactical voting would stop. We all supported Megan last year. Play nice.) Kudos to Valerie for representing her country with pride despite the extra pressure of having to live up to what Megan Young achieved.

POLAND: ADA SZTAJEROWSKA **

I think she Ada is attractive and she has a unique look that makes her stand out from the crowd. I don’t believe it’s enough in a competitive year like this one but I think she gave it her all.

PORTUGAL: ZITA OLIVEIRA *

Zita just won her national title a few weeks ago. She was supposed to compete at Miss World 2015. However, last year’s winner decided not to sign a contract with the organization and Zita was asked to represent her country this year. She is very raw and her lack of preparation is evident.

PUERTO RICO: GENESIS DAVILA *****

Genesis was my pick to win her national title. She is tall, elegant, and glamorous. Most fans were worried that she might be a tad too fierce for Miss World, but I think she has managed to tone it down quite well. She comes with a very strong sash and I think a top 10 spot is on the horizon. If she impresses the judges during the interviews, she could even go all the way to the top 5.

ROMANIA: BIANCA FANU **

I think Bianca is really far better than the average Romanian delegate from her country and she has done her utmost at this pageant. I am not sure if that will be enough, but she has definitely waved the Romanian flag proudly.

RUSSIA: ANASTASIA KOSTENKO ****

Anastasia’s beauty is undeniable and I do absolutely feel that she is a super beauty. I am just not too sure about her styling. At times I feel she looks almost “manufactured” but then she surprises with a sweet and natural look again. Would she have been better for Miss Universe? The big question is also: how well can a second runner-up do when the actual winner should have been there?

SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE: DJEISSICA BARBOSA **

Major kudos to Djeissica for actually making it to the pageants with only 10 days left of it. That shows determination and should be commended. Even though her stint in London will be brief, she has done her country proud.

SCOTLAND: ELLIE MCKEATING ****

I am surprised by how popular Ellie is with the Miss World panel. She made it to Top Model and she’s getting a lot of hype at the moment. Some people feel it’s political while others feel she is the best blonde. I still think England is the favorite of the British girls but I must admit that Ellie looked lovely during the Top Model challenge.

SERBIA: MILIKA VUCLIS **

I know Milika has taken her job as Miss Serbia very seriously. She has really worked hard to be the best representative she possibly can be. I commend her for that and her country should be very proud of her. Do I think she’ll make it? Probably not! But well done to her for trying her best.

SEYCHELLES: CAMILA ESTICO *

I recognize Camila quite easily in photos which obviously means that she has a unique look. I think she has represented her country with pride and dignity but I don’t think this will be her year.

SINGAPORE: DALREENA GIL *

Singapore has not done well in Miss World in a very long time and I’m not expecting this year to be any different. She is just not on par with most of the others.

SLOVAKIA: LAURA LONGAUEROVA **

I do think there is something extremely captivating about Laura. I had her as someone to watch when she was crowned. I feel she has been outshined by a lot of girls though. She would have done much better in a less competitive year.

SLOVENIA: JULIJA BIZJAK **

Pretty but bland. I don’t see a top 20 placement in the future of Miss Slovenia. I hope she made the most of her time in London.
