Miss Earth 2013 Review: Guam - Kazakhstan

89 delegates arrived in Manila in early November to compete for the Miss Earth 2013 title. On Saturday (December 7) 88 (Miss New Zealand had to withdraw after she got sick in the Philippines)of them will step on stage hoping to become the 13th Miss Earth.

Even though there is a really strong group of delegate, I must say that it is very hard to follow the pageant after last year's scandal. I actually didn't really follow it that closely this year because that scandal left a bitter taste in my mouth which will probably remain there for quite some time. One the one hand I did decide though to give them a fair shot hoping they will redeem themselves. And on the other hand, I also cover this pageant because my blog is fairly young and I need the hits. I hope this organization will pull themselves together and strive towards fairness and transparency. Integrity and respect can be much more valuable (in the long term) than money gained from selling a title.

Back to the delegates, who don't really need to be involved in all of this. I must say that the quality has improved a lot the last five years and this is probably one of their best bunches yet. Here's my review:

******: POTENTIAL WINNER
*****: POTENTIAL RUNNER-UP
****: POTENTIAL TOP 8 FINALIST
***: POTENTIAL TOP 16 FINALIST
**: UNLIKELY TO PLACE
*: HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO PLACE
GUAM: KATARINA MARTINEZ ***
Guam is so unlucky in pageants. They have had a few stunners who failed to make the cut the last few years. Katarina is another exotic stunner who is one of my sentimental favorites this year. I really hope she’ll place but I know there’s a very good chance that she won’t.

GUATEMALA: JIMENA WEVER **
Jimena made a positive impact and she actually would have had a decent shot if the group had been a little weaker. But in this group, she’ll probably be left clapping.

HAITI: CAROLINA RINCHERE *
I am sure it was an honor for Carolina to represent her country at this year’s Miss Earth Pageant. I hope she had a great time and will leave the Philippines with lots of new friends and fond memories.

HUNGARY: DALMA HUSZAROVICS **
There’s something quite appealing about Dalma but will this be enough for a top 16 spot? I don’t think so. I think there are other girls with a much better shot.

INDIA: SOBHITA DHULIPALA *****
I absolutely love this girl. I think she is stunning and I was she had won Miss India and competed at Miss World. She did an amazing job at this pageant. Her countrymen should be very proud of her. She deserves nothing less than a top 8 spot and could be fighting with the Philippines and Thailand for a top 4 spot.

INDONESIA: NITA SOFIANI ***
Nita is beautiful and did a good job representing her country. In fact, I think she just got better as the pageant went along. I think she has a fair shot of reaching the top 16.

ISRAEL: MARIA ABBOUD *
One thing is for sure, Maria definitely stood out because she has a very different look. I think it might be a tad too unconventional for the Miss Earth judges, so I don’t think she will be in the top 16.

ITALY: DEBORA BON *
Italy has received quite a bit of attention at Miss Earth but this year they’ve gone relatively unnoticed. I hope Debora has a wonderful time in the Philippines and enjoyed being part of an international pageant.

JAPAN: HU JORIKAWA *
Japan was a bit of a surprise inclusion in last year’s pageant. This year I think they won’t have that much luck. The Asian group is quite strong.

KAZAKHSTAN: KUMIS BAZARBAYEVA ***
Kumis was voted the most talented of this year’s finalist and she the buzz around her has actually increased. Don’t be surprised to see her in the top 16 this year… and she won’t look out of place. She is a great looking girl.
