Miss Earth 2013 Review: British Virgin Islands - Curacao

89 delegates arrived in Manila in early November to compete for the Miss Earth 2013 title. On Saturday (December 7) 88 (Miss New Zealand had to withdraw after she got sick in the Philippines)of them will step on stage hoping to become the 13th Miss Earth.

Even though there is a really strong group of delegate, I must say that it is very hard to follow the pageant after last year's scandal. I actually didn't really follow it that closely this year because that scandal left a bitter taste in my mouth which will probably remain there for quite some time. One the one hand I did decide though to give them a fair shot hoping they will redeem themselves. And on the other hand, I also cover this pageant because my blog is fairly young and I need the hits. I hope this organization will pull themselves together and strive towards fairness and transparency. Integrity and respect can be much more valuable (in the long term) than money gained from selling a title.

Back to the delegates, who don't really need to be involved in all of this. I must say that the quality has improved a lot the last five years and this is probably one of their best bunches yet. Here's my review:

******: POTENTIAL WINNER
*****: POTENTIAL RUNNER-UP
****: POTENTIAL TOP 8 FINALIST
***: POTENTIAL TOP 16 FINALIST
**: UNLIKELY TO PLACE
*: HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO PLACE

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS: KIMBERLY HERBERT *

Representing your country at an international pageant is an honor and Kimberly will always have the bragging rights of being a Miss Earth 2013 contestant. That being said, I don’t think she will place. The competition is too tough this year.

CANADA: SOFIYA CHORNIY ****

Sofiya is a stunning natural beauty and I expected her to do very well at this pageant. At one point, I even had her in my top 4. I’m actually quite stunned that she has not been getting more attention. Sadly she has not been shortlisted in any of the preliminary events. She is beautiful enough to make it to the top 8. Hopefully the judges will notice her soon!!!

CHILE: NATALIA LERMANDA ***

Natalia is another girl who I thought would have done better but she’s not been getting much attention either. There are always surprises at Miss Earth… lots of them, so she could still be in the running for a top 16 spot.

CHINA PR: LISA XIANG **

Lisa is tall and quite striking but there are a lot of ladies in the Asian group who are strong. Her most notable achievement in the contest so far was being one of the top 15 talent finalists. She represented her country well.

CHINESE TAIPEI: LYU YING LI *

I guess it will take a while for Taiwan to find a girl who will match Cherry Liu’s achievement 2 years ago. Girls here in Taiwan are just not interested in pageants. Not this year, Taiwan.

COLOMBIA: DIANA ORTEGON ****

Diana is stunning girl and by the looks of things, it seems like she is heading for a top 16 spot. She was shortlisted in both talent and swimsuit. Colombia last placed in 2009 when they reached the top 8. This year, Diana could give them another top 8 placement.

COSTA RICA: MARIELA APARICIO *****

Mariela was due to compete at Miss Earth a couple of years ago but she had to withdraw at the last minute. This year she is back and she is definitely making a major impact. She is extremely striking and sexy. You can’t ignore her. She will fight for a top 4 spot.

COTE D’IVOIRE: BINTOU TRAORE ***

Here’s another country that’s debuting at Miss Earth. Bintou is actually really pretty and I like her a lot. I think she’s one of the strongest girls from Africa. Even though she has not really had any recognition, I still think she’s in with an outside chance of a surprise top 16 spot.

CRIMEA: MARIYA MAKATER ***

There’s no denying that this is a lady whose sultry beauty will make you stop and take notice. Based on beauty alone, she should make the cut. But there are several other delegates fighting for a top 16 spot. I still have faith in her though.

CURACAO: ARCHANGELA GARCIA *

So far, Archangela has not really made much of an impact in the preliminary rounds. She is a nice looking girl though and I’m sure she has done her very best to represent her country as well as she could.
