Miss Universe Canada Scandal: Denise Garrido loses title, Riza Santos named actual winner

OUT: Denise Garrido is no longer Miss Universe Canada

The "winner" of Saturday night's Miss Universe Canada 2013 pageant, 26 year old Denise Garrido's joy was short-lived when she was stripped of her title on Monday after an error with the scoring was discovered. Garrido was crowned the winner at the conclusion of the pageant on Saturday and was due to represent Canada at Miss Universe 2013.
IN: Riza Santos is the new Miss Universe Canada 2013

The Beauties of Canada Organization that has been running the Miss Universe Canada Pageant for the last 11 years released a statement stating that due to human error, a mistake was made during the calculation of this year's final results. After the error was corrected, they found that 26 year old Riza Santos was the actual winner. Santos stands 1.7m tall and will now assume the title and the honor of representing Canada at Miss Universe 2013.

The statement also revealed that Garrido was the actual third runner-up. The first runner-up should have been Sierra Bearchell and the second runner-up Diana Martin. Michelle McKay was the fourth runner-up.

WHAT A HORRIBLE THING TO HAPPEN!!!! DENISE GARRIDO IS AN AMAZING YOUNG LADY AND WE WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT WE SUPPORT HER 100% AND WE FEEL SAD WITH HER THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THIS IS SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND SHE MUST BE DEVASTATED!!! DENISE, OUR LOVE AND SUPPORT, AND OUR VERY BEST WISHES ARE WITH YOU!!!

  1. Though I like the newly crowned Miss Canada and both have the obvious potential to be a Finalist at Miss Universe, I would have kept the results with the originally crowned winner. The "dethroned" Miss Canada should now go on to Miss International, Miss World, or another pageant as a "consolation prize." Bennett
