Miss Universe 2012 Review: Albania - Brazil

The 61st Miss Universe Pageant will be held on December 19 at PH Live, Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. This has not been the best year for the Miss Universe Organization as they were scrambling for the greatest part of the year to find a host for the pageant and in the end it resulted in Vegas again and the pageant being held right at the very end of year for the first time. As a result, Angola's Leila Lopes has become the longest reigning titleholder in the history of the pageant. She will crown Miss Universe 2012 at the conclusion of the event that will be shown live on NBC and Telemundo Wednesday night. The Miss Universe Organization has made the most of this year's pageant despite all the setbacks and embraced the time of the year with a holiday themed show. The great group of delegates also made up for the very long wait. A note to the Miss Universe Organization: PLEASE LOWER THE HOSTING FEE!!! You will find a host if you don't charge a fortune. We want to see the pageant in new exotic locations.
Now on to the stars of the show:

KEY:

POSSIBLE WINNER - ******
POSSIBLE TOP 5 FINALIST - *****
POSSIBLE TOP 10 SEMI-FINALIST - ****
POSSIBLE TOP 16 QUARTER FINALIST - ***
UNLIKELY TO PLACE - **
HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO PLACE - *

ALBANIA: ADROLA DUSHI ***
Albania has been doing very well in the Miss Universe Pageant in recent years. Many people believe it is because the franchise is owned by official photographer of the pageant, Fadil Berisha. Whether it is that or the fact that they always send fierce supermodel types is debatable but we always take notice of this country at Miss Universe. Adrola held her own in the competition but she did not kill it during preliminaries. She certainly is good enough to make the top 16 but she lacked spark.

ANGOLA: MARCELINA VAHEKENI **
Last year, Angola won their very first Miss Universe title with the gorgeous Leila Lopes. Repeat victories don’t happen when you wear the sash of country that’s not a pageant powerhouse. So far, only Venezuela has managed to win twice in a row. Let’s be blunt: Marcelina will NOT change that. She is, however, better than I first though but she chose a HIDEOUS gown though. If that doesn’t kill her chances, I don’t know what will. I love her national costume though.

ARGENTINA: CAMILA SOLORZANO **
At first I thought Camila was one of the weaker girls of this year’s batch but when the Fadils were released, I changed my mind. She definitely has very striking looks that, even though not considered as traditionally beautiful, makes you stop and look… and like. She also had lots of stage presence and performed well during the preliminaries and she has an amazing body. I don’t think it will be enough to place though but she gave it her all.

ARUBA: LIZA HELDER **
Here’s another girl who was a very pleasant surprise. She has a gorgeous face and stunning eyes. It seems like she is also quite well prepared. I wasn’t totally blown away during the preliminaries though. She lacked energy in gown but worked it in swimsuit. Overall, I think she did quite well and should be proud of giving a more than competent performance.

AUSTRALIA: RENAE AYRIS ******
Australia has been sending girls of a very high caliber in recent years and this year is no exception. Renae checks all the boxes. She is tall, regal, stunningly beautiful, and quite well-spoken. She is good on the runway but she can show a bit more personality. I think she is quite underrated by most people and would not be surprised if she takes it all. If they are looking for a tall blonde, she’d be the best choice.

BAHAMAS: CELESTE MARSHALL ***
Once again, the Bahamas is sending a competent delegate to try and score their first semi-final placement. The odds are stacked against her but she could sneak in if they finally get rewarded for hosting the Miss Teen USA Pageant. She is tall, striking, and very likeable. I loved her interview so she is definitely strong in that area. During the preliminaries I loved her swimsuit performance and she was quite OK in gown too.

BELGIUM: LAURA BEYNE ***
Laura is one of the nice surprises of the pageant. I always liked her and thought she should have received more attention at Miss World. Then she showed up here and, once again, flew under the radar. I must say that I was extremely surprised by her super sexy preliminary performances. She is super sexy without trying too hard. Well, I guess I should have known because her Fadil glamshot was HOT!!!

BOLIVIA: YESSICA MOUTON ***
Yessica has one of the most beautiful faces of the competition for me. She performed very well during the preliminaries and I would say that she could definitely pull a surprise. I would be delighted if her name was called as one of the final 16. The only thing that I think was distracting was the unbelievably bright lipstick she used. It was a bit too much.

BOTSWANA: SHEILLAH MOLELEKWA **
I think Sheillah is absolutely gorgeous and much better than I first thought. It’s a real shame that her gown was so horrible because if she wore a better gown, she could have been in the running for a shot at the top 16 spot. The fact remains however: she is one of the best delegates sent by her country in recent years.

BRAZIL: GABRIELLA MARKUS ****

Never count Brazil out. Many people wrote Gabriella off but she brought it in preliminaries. A lot of people are saying that her look is too mature but I thought she gave a very sexy and polished performance. Don’t be surprised to see her in the top 16, even in the top 10. (Oh yes, she looks like a young Teri Hatcher to me!)
