Miss World 2012 Review: China - Dominican Republic

The 62nd Miss World will be crowned this Saturday, August 18th, at the Dongsheng Fitness Stadium Center in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China. 116 amazing young ladies are competing to become the next Miss World. Ordos welcomed the girls with open arms and it seems like they are going all out to show the world what they can done. The stage is looking amazing and the opening ceremony looked fantastic with all the traditional dancers and the huge LED screens. I hope we will be treated with a grand and exciting final night. The contest was very long again... four weeks! I am sure the girls must be exhausted by now but I also know it has been a fantastic experience for them. It was hard to follow the contest at times as the girls rarely wear their sashes. To know who's who, you have to be able to either recognize them or be able to decipher what's written on those small name tags. The groups is so strong this year, though, that it is almost impossible to say who will be the next Miss World. There are so many gorgeous and deserving young ladies and I wish them all good luck and the very best in life!!!

***** In the running for a spot in the top 7
**** Potential top 15 semi-finalist
*** Could be in the top 30
** Will possibly miss the cut
* Very likely to miss the cut

Here's what I think:

CHINA PR: Wen Xia Yu ******
The host nation usually does quite well especially when the pageant is being held in China and South Africa. However, this girl does not even need the host nation advantage. She is a stunner in her own right and would have been a favorite in any other country the pageant could have been held in. She is tall, gorgeous, talented, and she might be China’s second Miss World. In this case, the fact that it is being held in China could actually be to her disadvantage.

COLOMBIA: Barbara Turbay *****
There is no denying that Barbara is gorgeous. She is one of those beauties that could do very well at both Miss World and Miss Universe. In fact, I think she might even be better suited for Miss Universe. She has done very well in the Challenge Events and that means she could be high up on the leaderboard. Are those rumors true though that she’s not the nicest of girls?! At Miss World that matters a lot… but then again there was Emma Wareus… so who knows, Colombia could perhaps be the top performer in the Americas.

COSTA RICA: Silvana Sanchez **
I LOVE THIS GIRL and I have been rooting for her all the way. She is gorgeous, sincere, and sweet. In fact , at times she kind of resembles Ninibeth Leal (Miss World 1991) and Ivian Sarcos (Miss World 2012). Unfortunately she got lost in the crowd in the beginning and there weren’t that many photos of her popping up but later on she became more photographed. Sadly, she also didn’t make the cut in any challenge events but I’m hoping that her personality will shine through in front of the judges and that she will get lots of points for her BWAP project. I think she is very deserving for a place in the top 30.

COTE D’IVOIRE: Helene-Valerie Djouka **
One of my disappointments. At the start of the competition, I had her in my top 5 but she’s been fading fast. I just don’t like the hairstyle she chose to have at Miss World. Things could have been different though if she had chosen a better hairstyle. There is no doubt that she’s a striking girl but she did not look her best during the pageant. I’d be delighted if she places though.

CROATIA: Maja Nikolic *
Croatia’s Maja Nikolic has quite unnoticed during the competition. I saw very few photos of her… or maybe I’m still not able to recognize her. Either way, I don’t think she’ll be in the top half of the leaderboard.

CURACAO: Stephanie Chang **
Stephanie did well in the talent challenge event and that is something to definitely be proud of. Other than that, I don’t think she will be one of the top contenders. This year the field is too strong.

CYPRUS: Georgia Georgiou *
Georgia was my favorite for the Miss World Cyprus title. The problem is that her styling appears harsh at times and makes her features look harsh too. It’s a shame no one advised her to soften her look.

CZECH REPUBLIC: Linda Bartosova ****
Miss Czech Republic is gorgeous enough to place in the top 15, and she has done well in talent and Beach Beauty. I expected her to be one of the top contenders though but it seems like a top 15 placement could be what she’ll have to be happy with… or I can even see her totally being left out of the top 30.

DENMARK: Iris Thompson ****
Iris has been one of my absolute favorite contestants to follow. It seems like she is one of the nicest girls in the competition and she is one of the girls who appears on the most photos during the entire competition. A lot of people have mentioned that she resembles Stefania Fernandez, Miss Universe 2009. I really want her to place. I adore her attitude and loved her diary entries. GO IRIS!!!!

Her professional photos definitely looked better than her candids. I was not impressed by the way she styled herself either. I don’t think the Dominican Republic will be getting another Miss World this year.
